Captura Software

Captura (later acquired by Concur Technologies, Inc.) was a leading vendor of corporate expense management software.

Situation
Captura's enterprise clients had globally distributed workforces and demanded the ability to access enterprise applications over the Web.
Challenge
Captura required a high performance system for generating responsive, usable HTML interfaces for a sophisticated management application.
Resolution
EC Wise designed the UI generation architecture for Captura's first Web-based expense management software, and worked with Captura's development team to build the product using this architectural foundation. To provide a highly responsive, data-intensive user interface that could be deployed through a web browser, EC Wise built a set of high performance server-side code generation routines that modeled pages as a set of Java classes on the server, which then represented themselves to client browsers as HTML. This architecture enabled Captura to deliver scalable, high-performance products deployable over the Web long before this application model became widely adopted. In addition to the user interface, we adapted our code generation framework to support web-delivered instructional content, and then built online training programs to enable employees of Captura's customers to get up to speed rapidly. The performance of our development team and our toolkit enabled Captura to get to market quickly, with a product that was able to serve the needs of large enterprise customers like Ford, Merrill Lynch, and Compaq.
