Integration of National Retail Chain

Working with one of our partner companies, we used our enterprise architecture and data modeling skills to build a data integration system for a retail chain with outlets in over 300 mall locations across the United States.

Situation
The client operates its stores as POS terminals on a common network. These terminals generate upwards of 250,000 register entries a day, which was greater than the company's PC based database solution could efficiently handle. In addition, the client uses software from different companies for point-of-sale, merchandising, general ledger and payroll, creating a massive data integration burden.
Challenge
Design and build a high performance system to support real time management assessment of operations - effectiveness of promotions, holiday trends, etc.
Resolution
EC Wise architected a solution using Biztalk and Microsoft SQL Server's data transformation services as the key integration technologies. The solution processes inbound transactions as they occur, giving management unprecedented visibility, and provides system administrators and help desk personnel a very transparent view of activity occuring at each of the store POS locations.
